GALVESTON — A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew flew a ship’s crewman to a hospital after the man suffered from extreme stomach pains 178 miles off the Galveston coast authorities said Monday.

The Coast Guard received the call at 8:54 p.m. Sunday from the vessel London Trader a 422-foot tanker.

The helicopter crew hoisted the man from the ship and flew him to the University of Texas Medical Branch.

The Coast Guard didn’t release the man’s name and didn’t know his condition.
