LEAGUE CITY — A member of the U.S. Coast Guard received a 24-month prison sentence Wednesday and was ordered to repay $230,468 in restitution on a theft of government property charge.

The U.S. attorney’s office said Petty Officer First Class Gavino Ortiz III, 32, of League City, pleaded guilty Nov. 27.

Authorities accused Ortiz of using a government-issued purchase card in 2011 for his benefit, including the purchase of a $2,678 sky diving parachute and accessories.

Ortiz will remain on bond pending his surrender to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons in the near future.
