GALVESTON — Police arrested a pair of Galveston teenagers accused of unsuccessfully trying to flee officers amid allegations they shoplifted beer from a store.

About 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, the teens, ages 17 and 19, were accused of stealing less than $50 in beer from St. Joseph Food Store, 1702 23rd St., Galveston police Lt. Michael Gray said.

Police responded to the theft call and spotted two men matching the description at 20th Street and Avenue N. The men fled, Gray said. Officers quickly set up a perimeter, blocking street access in the surrounding neighborhood.

Officers found one man under a house in the 1500 block of 19th Street and the other in the backyard of a residence in the 1500 block of 20th Street, Gray said. Police had the men in custody by 10 p.m.

Police charged both teens with evading arrest, a Class B misdemeanor, and police also issued them citations in connection with the beer theft, Gray said.

Their bonds were set at $2,000 each, Gray said.
