GALVESTON — A Bacliff man was sentenced to three years in state prison Wednesday after he was found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender.

Robert Walter Thomas, 39, was convicted of sexual assault in 2004, and of failing to comply with sex offender registration in 2011, according to an indictment on the most recent charge of failing to register as a sex offender.

A Galveston County jury found Thomas, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, guilty after a two-day trial.

Judge Brett Griffin of the 212th District Court sentenced Thomas to three years at a state institution.
