FRIENDSWOOD — Police are asking Friendswood residents to check their cars and make sure nothing was stolen.

Robert Chance Gates, 21, was charged with two counts of burglary of a vehicle shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday.

Gates is accused of burglarizing a car in the 16900 block of Creek Line Drive, according to a news release from the Friendswood Police Department.

The car owner saw his car being broken into, police said. The owner and his family called 911, and the man chased the suspect and tackled him, police said.

Police said Gates gave a statement about burglaries of several vehicles. Police found a handicap placard and returned to its owner, and officers are trying to return other property to their various owners.

Police asked residents to see whether their cars were burglarized overnight. Residents who lost property may contact the police department at 281-996-3300, describe the property and submit a formal report.
