CLEAR LAKE SHORES — A man who drew suspicion by eyeing a security guard’s new Harley-Davidson motorcycle was arrested on a felony theft charge when the truck police allege he was driving turned out to be stolen.
Bond for Cardell Jeremy Bassue, 32, of Houston was set at $25,000 on a felony theft charge, stemming from an incident about 9:30 p.m. Monday at Legend Point Condominiums, 1300 Marina Bay Drive, Clear Lake Shores Police Chief Kenneth Cook said.
“(The guard) pulled his golf cart next to his newly purchased Harley-Davidison motorcycle, goes for a walk, comes back and observes the person sitting on the golf cart, trying to push it back to get to the Harley,” Cook said.
The guard called police, and authorities accused Bassue of driving a 2013 Ford F350 reported stolen to the Victoria Police Department. The truck was valued at $66,000, Cook said.
A trailer attached to the pickup had its identifying numbers scratched off, Cook said.
Police arrested Bausse without incident.
Bausse wasn’t listed as a jail inmate Tuesday afternoon.
