TEXAS CITY — A man involved in a three-hour standoff with Texas City police and SWAT members was formally charged Thursday.

Sean Michael Nelson, 27, was booked into the Galveston County Jail and charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. He is being held on bonds totaling more than $200,000.

Police said Nelson pointed a shotgun at officers responding to a call about domestic violence at a house in the 11500 block of Strom Road at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Nelson, still carrying the shotgun, then locked himself in a pickup, police said. Officers evacuated nearby houses and closed the street to traffic.

After about three hours, Texas City SWAT members used flash grenades to subdue Nelson, who was taken into custody after a brief struggle, police said.
