9 Indicted On Meth Charges

GALVESTON — Nine people from Southeast Texas were indicted on charges related to methamphetamine trafficking authorities said Thursday.

A U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency task force in Galveston Texas City FBI and Brazoria County authorities arrested three people in Brazoria County and three others already were in state custody a spokeswoman with the U.S. attorney’s office in Houston said.

The sting continues to target drug trafficking in and around the Galveston area authorities said.

USCG Airlifts Man From Italian Ship

GALVESTON — A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter flew a man from the Italian-flagged ship Mare Doricum about 16 nautical miles off the Galveston coast Thursday a Coast Guard spokeswoman said.

The Coast Guard was called at 9:50 a.m. after the vessel reported a crewman 52 experienced severe upper abdominal pain. The helicopter crew hoisted the man aboard and flew him to the University of Texas Medical Branch for treatment the spokeswoman said.

The Coast Guard didn’t release the man’s name or his condition.
