GALVESTON — A man was arrested Sunday evening after being accused of kidnapping a woman from a seawall bar, according to police.
Eric Veazie-Gilmore, 32, was being held in the Galveston County Jail on $45,000 bond charged with one count each of kidnapping and possession of a controlled substance.
According the police department, dispatchers received a 911 call about 5:30 p.m. Sunday from a home on Intrepid Lane in the far West End.
The caller told police a woman had walked up to the home and said she had been kidnapped.
The woman told police that she met a man at The Poop Deck on Seawall Boulevard. He offered her a ride home from the bar, and the two got into his car.
“She quickly realized after getting in the vehicle with the man that he had no intention of taking her home and was refusing to let her out of the car,” police said in a news release.
The woman escaped by jumping out of the care and ran up to the home on Intrepid Land, about 22 miles from the bar.
After being alerted, police swarmed the West End, looking for a vehicle and driver matching the descriptions. An officer stopped and detained Veazie-Gilmore near 12 Mile Road.
