GALVESTON — A Galveston Police officer and a Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputy were injured after an alleged drunken driver crashed into their patrol car early Sunday morning.

According to the police department, the police cruiser transporting officer Ashton Gill and Deputy David Rojas was struck by an eastbound vehicle on Broadway Boulevard around 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning. The cruiser was struck as it crossed at a green light on 25th Street.

Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, Douglas Ashmore, 47, and charged him with driving while intoxicated.

Both officers were treated for nonlife threatening injuries.
