PORT BOLIVAR — Galveston County investigators have few leads to go on as they try to find out who killed two Houston women on Friday.

The bodies of Britney Cosby, 24, and Crystal Jackson, 24, of Houston were found outside the Fisherman’s Cove Food Mart in the 700 block of state Highway 87 about 7:45 a.m. Friday.

Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Barry Cook said his investigators are searching for leads into the women’s deaths.

Detectives interviewed possible witnesses on Saturday, following up on what leads they have.

Detectives investigating the double homicide suspect that the women were killed elsewhere before their bodies were driven to Port Bolivar and dropped off, he said.

A beer deliveryman who works for Del Papa Distributing Co. found the bodies. He told investigators he at first though he was seeing mannequins.

The store is a little more than a mile away from the Galveston-Bolivar Ferry landing, and there is a “strong possibility” that the women were killed somewhere off the peninsula, Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said.

Investigators could not say if the motive in the killings would be considered a hate crime. Detectives said the two women were in a relationship.

There was one security camera operating near the store, and investigators are examining the tape, Trochesset said.

Autopsies on the two women would be done Monday.

Cook made a public call for anyone who may know the women or who may have last talked or seen them to contact the sheriff’s office.

Investigators also are looking for a silver 2006 Kia Sorento with gray trim that has paper plates.

Family members told KHOU-TV that the two women purchased the car recently and planned a day trip to the beach.

The murders come just as spring break gets underway. The Bolivar Peninsula is a popular stop for spring breakers.

The homicides “actually makes me think to change my plans and go home,” Sarahi Cadena, a spring breaker, told KHOU.

Bolivar residents also are on edge.

“Unbelievable, it’s scary,” Nancy Palley of Crystal Beach told the TV station.

“You know, I told my husband we are making sure to lock our doors today. I’m not coming home to find someone in my house.”
