The ballots for the May municipal and school board elections are now set. Monday was the final day for candidate filings in the special elections for mayor and one alderman’s seat in Bayou Vista and, with all the candidates set, the campaign season is officially under way.

In the race for Bayou Vista mayor, Theresa Moeller will face Daniel S. Konyha to see who replaces Bobby Rosenquest, who resigned in December. Alderman Vaun Henry, who has been acting mayor since Rosenquest’s resignation, decided to stick with a run for city council and will face Tami Inman and Carol Wortham for the Position 5 council seat.

Seven cities and two school districts plus College of the Mainland will hold city council or school board elections in May. There will also be a bond referendum in Santa Fe for a new police station and municipal court building, a $367 million bond issue in the Clear Creek school district and a vote to create an emergency services district on the Bolivar Peninsula.

Election day is May 11. Early voting runs April 29 through May 7.

Voters not yet registered to vote must do so by April 11.
