DICKINSON — A traffic stop Thursday afternoon on Interstate 45 resulted in the discovery of more than 5 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of more than $539,000, sheriff’s deputies said.

A sheriff’s deputy pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 2800 block of I-45 in Dickinson on Thursday and arrested the driver, who did not have a valid driver’s license, Capt. Mike Benavides with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said.

The deputy searched the car, a Dodge Caravan, and found more than 5 kilograms of cocaine, Benavides said.

Guadalupe Martinez Ochoa, 26, of Mexico, was charged with the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance weighing more than 400 grams and for driving without a license.

Ochoa was in the country illegally, Benavides said.

He was being held at the Galveston County Jail on bonds totaling more than $1 million.
