GALVESTON — Two men were rescued from a sinking boat near North Deer Island early Tuesday morning.

At midnight, the Galveston Police Department received calls from a passer-by on the Galveston Causeway about boaters in distress in West Galveston Bay.

The Galveston Marine Response unit dispatched a boat to the area, according to police department. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter also assisted in the search.

The fishermen were rescued from their boat, which was taking on water near the south side of North Deer Island. No injuries were reported. The boat sank.
