LEAGUE CITY — About 50 people signed up to bid on the firearms collection of Bill James, the late owner of The Arms Room in League City.
The 108-piece collection up for bid included weapons dating back to the early 1800s.
There also were World War II-era rifles and gun accessories.
The auction included an anti-tank rocket launcher and a pair of sneakers autographed by former Houston Rocket Yao Ming.
James spent more than 40 years assembling the collection before he died last summer. Officials didn’t have a final tally on how much the auction raised, but most of the guns sold for between $200 and $475.
John Gay of LL Auctions said 49 people signed up to make bids. All of the buyers had to go through a criminal-background check before leaving with their new purchases.
While money from the auction will go into the store, James’ daughter Brandy Liss said some of the money might go to charity.
