KEMAH — A man had one of his legs severed when he lost control of his motorcycle attempting to flee police Saturday evening.

Kemah police were investigating an accident at Sixth and Bradford streets near the Kemah Boardwalk Entertainment District when a man driving a black motorcycle defied officers and drove around barricades erected by police at the accident site.

The man then fled south on state Highway 146. Officers began to follow the motorcyclist and were about to order a pursuit when they discovered the man and his motorcycle splayed out on the ground at FM 518.

Kemah police Sgt. Mark Hinson said police did not know what happened to the motorcyclist.

One of the man’s legs was severed and found at the scene.

Hinson said the motorcyclist was taken via LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Firefighters and police officers on the scene had to disconnect the motorcycle’s battery to prevent a fire because gasoline had leaked on the street.

Officers were still investigating the accident late Saturday evening and did not know whether alcohol was involved.

What a devastating story. To flee without regard to one's safety, nor others'. Wonder what he was running from? I suppose when they release his name, some of those questions can be answered. Then, maybe carlosrponce can look up his arrest/mugshot history for us.
