GALVESTON — An 8-year-old schoolboy darted away from his mother Monday morning and into the path of a car, but only his foot was injured, authorities said.

The KIPP Coastal Village student at Rosenberg School, 721 10th St., was walking north on 11th Street about 7:20 a.m. when he darted away from his mother and left the crosswalk, Galveston police Sgt. Annie Almendarez said.

A car traveling slowly west through a school zone on Ball Street stopped immediately, but not before it struck the boy’s foot.

The boy suffered abrasions on his right toe, but apparently no bones were broken, Almendarez said.

The boy was transported by an emergency medical crew.
