BACLIFF — A man charged with murder pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of his brother-in-law.

Juan Cruz Vazquez, 36, received a 4-year prison sentence in the July 15, 2011, slaying of Saul Martinez, 31, of Bacliff, according to the judgment filed Monday in Judge Kerry Neves 10th District Court in Galveston.

Vazquez received roughly 20 months credit because he’s been incarcerated since the day after the slaying.

Galveston County sheriff’s deputies found Martinez dead in a mobile home in the 4400 block of 17th Street. Martinez shared the residence with Vazquez.

Deputies recovered the knife used in the stabbing, and agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Vazquez at an Austin bus station.
