FRIENDSWOOD — Police are searching for a Pearland man accused of striking an officer with a car door as he fled a traffic stop in Friendswood early Sunday.

Warrants on charges of evading arrest and assault of a peace officer have been issued for Nathaniel Anthony Fuentes, 21, Friendswood police said in a news release.

The charges stem from an incident shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday when a Friendswood officer tried to pull over a vehicle for speeding in the 700 block of West Parkwood Avenue, according to the release.

The officer attempted to stop the driver of the vehicle from swallowing what appeared to be a drug package, according to the news release. The driver then drove away, and part of the vehicle’s door struck the officer, according to the news release.

Officers pursued the car but lost sight of the vehicle near state Highway 35 and FM 2351, police said.
