SANTA FE — The Veterans Coalition will discuss updates for the planned historical park at Jack Brooks Park at its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at VFW Post 5400, 11230 state Highway 6.

A committee will be selected to present the plans to the commissioners court.

The Veterans Coalition is open to any person or group that is interested in helping veterans or working on this historical park project. For more information, visit www.galvestoncountyveteranscoalition.com or contact Jim Flex II at 832-285-2008.

The Veterans Coalition also will discuss the Vietnam Veterans Watch Fire ceremonies in May. It also will discuss changing the organization’s name to include all veterans and non-veterans alike.

The organization is promoting the use of the Veterans Crisis Hotline, 1-800-273-8255. Veterans and their supporters also can text questions to 838255.

“We need to spread the word throughout the community that veterans or their families dealing with depression, or friends of veterans, should call this number and get help,” Flex said.
