BACLIFF — A couple accused of trying to clean up a homicide scene was indicted on murder charges, authorities said Thursday.
The grand jury returned murder indictments Wednesday against Samantha Escobedo-Resendiz, 26, and her boyfriend, German Perez-Vazquez, 31, said Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
The couple was initially charged with one count each of tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse in the Jan. 20 slaying of Erik Enrique Calvillo, 26, of San Leon.
The medical examiner’s office ruled Calvillo’s death as a homicide. He suffered stab wounds to the head during a confrontation with his former girlfriend and her boyfriend inside a trailer home in the 3700 block of Harmony Lane in Bacliff, Tuttoilmondo said.
The couple went to the Kemah Police Department to report the incident. Authorities accused them of trying to clean up the crime scene. Their bonds totaled $200,000 each, but they also remained jailed Thursday without bond, as each has an immigration hold, jail records reveal.
