GALVESTON — Candidates for city council and mayor will answer questions about their vision for the island tonight at a forum sponsored by The Daily News.

The newspaper has joined with the Galveston Chamber of Commerce and Galveston Independent School District to put on the forum at Ball High School.

Fifteen candidates are seeking the city’s six council seats, and four are running for mayor. All but three have accepted invitations to the discussion. All will be asked questions submitted by The Daily News and its readers.

The event will also benefit the theater department of Ball High School. The group, which is in production of John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” for competition, will raise funds by hosting a concession stand during the forum.

The forum is an ongoing part of The Daily News’ efforts to get more public involvement in local government.

During the recent party primaries, The Daily News had forums for nine races on four nights in League City, Texas City, Santa Fe and Galveston.

Today’s forum will follow the format of the other Daily News forums and will be available online at galvnews.com.

The Daily News will soon launch its online candidate questionnaires for all of the county’s municipal and school board elections on May 10.
