TEXAS CITY — The couple running a Christian ministry that managed the Timothy Apartments will not be evicted, at least for a few more weeks, after the property owner failed to show up at court Monday.

David Barnes, the owner of the Timothy Apartments, 5105 Timothy St., in Texas City is attempting to evict Christopher and Laura Propes, the directors of Worthy Ministry Inc., who were managing the property.

Judge Sonny James granted a motion to dismiss the case after Barnes failed to show up. Barnes said he missed the proceeding because of a scheduling mistake and plans to file the eviction paperwork again today.

“I am still evicting them,” Barnes said. “They are still leaving.”

The Propes lived on and managed the property. Residents complained of foul living conditions, unfair treatment and of having their utilities cut off by the Propes.

Christopher and Laura Propes have denied those claims and have said the problems lay with the tenants and with Barnes.

Barnes has said he had no idea the poor condition the apartments had reached. He said he is trying to bring the property back up to code and having the tenants sign proper leases.

Christopher Propes said he and his wife have moved off the property and do not want to move back. But Propes said he is upset that Barnes has signed new leases for a property Propes said he was still leasing.

“It’s still my property,” Propes said.
