Dickinson City Administrator Julie Johnston is the latest to make a donation to sponsor the cost of 12 adoptions at the Galveston County Animal Resource Center.

Her donation, along with those of others, now has provided for 117 free adoptions, which is helping staff that has been dealing with more than 500 animals.

As of Monday morning, 100 animals have found homes.

As long as donations are available to cover the costs of adoptions at the center, they will be free.

After that, the fee will return to the current special half price rate of $42.50.

Included in all adoptions is spay/neutering, rabies vaccination and microchip.

The next adoption hours are noon to 8 p.m. today to allow evening hours for the public.

It seems to me they should be giving away these animals, to responsible homes, to lower the population & serious problems at this shelter. This is the Auschwitz prison for animals. If they can't care for them, why not give them to someone who can? Why wait for more donations to free these poor animals.
