GALVESTON — An ambulance crew rushed a girl from a hotel’s poolside after she was found unresponsive in the water, an official said.

Firefighters and an ambulance crew responded at 2:20 p.m. to the San Luis Resort, 5222 Seawall Blvd. in Galveston, to a report of a possible drowning, said Elizabeth Rogers, a spokeswoman for the city of Galveston.

Someone performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the girl, 6, after she was pulled from the water.

An ambulance crew took the girl to the University of Texas Medical Branch. Her name and condition weren’t immediately known.

A Galveston police officer interviewed witnesses at the pool. Attempts to reach a spokesperson for the resort weren’t immediately successful Monday.

This makes me wonder: As opposed to being at a hotel on a Monday afternoon, why wouldn't this 6 year-old girl be in her 1st grade classroom? It's not summer yet. What a shame.

My kids went to a private Kindergarten that ended around May 15 each year. They were both 6 when they graduated (Feb and May birthdays). I wouldn't read too much into it. In addition, kids are not required to attend Kindergarten in the state of Texas.

I hope she is ok.
