LEAGUE CITY — The city of League City will enforce mandatory water rationing for 24 hours starting at midnight Tuesday.

Officials are asking League City residents to comply with the drought contingency plan.

Residents are prohibited from irrigating landscaped areas and from washing vehicles.

Washing down sidewalks, buildings and other surfaces is prohibited, as is the flushing of gutters.

The drought contingency plan is in place because of continuing construction at the city’s largest water distribution facility, according to officials.

Mandatory water rationing also will be in effect throughout League City starting at midnight June 24 for 24 hours.

Violating the water restrictions could result in a $500 fine, officials said.

If the plan is actually able to be enforced, the city would be ordering people to comply, not asking them to.
