HITCHCOCK – A rodeo bullfighter was injured Friday night during the jackpot bull riding competition at the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo.

Brian Blair, also known as BB to his fans, was taken to the hospital for treatment and is recovering at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.

Fair and rodeo spokeswoman Barbara Robertson said Blair was run over by a bull in the arena.

“We hate that it happened,” Robertson said. “We never like to see anyone get injured.”

Blair was scheduled to have surgery for a broken jaw Sunday morning.

Bullfighters are a key safety component of the bull riding competition and risk injury as they try to keep the bull riders from getting injured.

Bull riding will return to the fair at 8 p.m. Thursday.
