SANTA FE — Santa Fe Fire Department responded to two grass fires and helped put out a controlled burn Sunday.

The first call came in about 2:15 p.m. for a grass fire in the 7500 block of Pearson Road, Deputy Chief Richie Pearson said.

The fire burned about 30 acres of pasture, he said.

While battling that blaze, the department also responded to a grass fire in the 7500 block of Avenue E1⁄2, he said.

Fire departments from Alvin, Hitchcock and La Marque all provided mutual aid, Pearson said.

Once both those fires had been put out, Santa Fe fire fighters helped put out a controlled burn along FM 646 before returning to the station around 4 p.m., Pearson said.
