HITCHCOCK — Opening testimony got underway Tuesday in the murder trial of Dennis Roy Redding.

Redding, a retired Houston Police Officer, is accused of shooting and killing his friend Dr. Mark Holcomb, a Clear Lake-area dentist in June 2012 while at Holcomb’s weekend house in the gated Harbor Walk subdivision in Hitchcock.

Prosecutors argue that an intoxicated Redding shot and killed Holcomb in a drunken-rage. Redding’s defense team counters the murder charge indicating the shooting was an accident.

The case is being heard in Judge Bret Griffin’s 212th District Court.
