LEAGUE CITY — Gardeners across the city are likely delighted to hear that plans to prohibit all outdoor watering on Tuesday have been called off. The cancellation, however, is temporary.

City officials had planned to enact Stage 3 water restrictions on Tuesday as crews continued installing valves from an expansion of the city’s main water plant.

The work required crews to shut off the 42-inch water line that provides the bulk of the city’s fresh water supply. That shutoff would limit residents to essential indoor water use only for a 24-hour period Tuesday.

Those same restrictions were in place earlier this week when crews got the first phase of the work done.

But the work schedule is pushed back, so on Thursday city officials announced that next week’s planned restrictions are not needed — for now.

At some point crews will need to finish that valve work, so there will be the need to implement the restrictions.

A new date for the work had not been scheduled as of Thursday afternoon.
