LEAGUE CITY — A man charged in the death of his infant daughter pleaded guilty to murder Monday.
As part of a plea bargain with prosecutors, Christopher Morgan Benson, 28, of League City was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Appearing in dress clothes in Judge Michelle Slaughter’s 405th District Court on Monday, Benson spoke quietly when entering his guilty plea.
Benson has been jailed since Oct. 12, 2012, when his 2-month-old child, Lola Glover, was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries consistent with “shaken baby syndrome,” according to a police affidavit.
Benson told a detective he shook the child for more than 10 minutes after she began crying while he was playing video games at a League City apartment in the 500 block of Davis Road. Benson told police he panicked when the child became unresponsive and “fell on the baby with his full weight,” according to the affidavit.
When the child’s mother returned home from work, the parents took the infant to an urgent care facility. The baby was taken to the Clear Lake Regional Hospital in Houston before being placed in a pediatric intensive care unit in Houston, where the child died Oct. 19, 2012, prosecutors said.
Benson was arrested and charged with injury to a child. He was re-indicted on a murder charge last month.
