LEAGUE CITY — Addressing a rumor about a possible kidnapping circulating on social media, the League City Police Department took to its social media page Tuesday to clarify that there have been no recent abductions in the city.

In a statement on the department’s Facebook page, police said “no abduction or attempted abduction” has occurred in League City.

The rumors began circulating Monday after a resident called police to report a man who got out of a van near Deer Ridge Drive and Water Oak Drive, then allegedly stared at the resident’s daughter standing in a front yard, according to the statement.

The girl went inside, and the man did not attempt to entice the child, police said.

According to the police statement, a van matching the description of the vehicle reported earlier Monday was pulled over that evening near Landing Boulevard and Brittany Colony Drive.

Officers confirmed the driver was lost and on his way to fix an air conditioner at a home in the area, police said. It’s unclear if the man in the van was the individual reported earlier that day.

Anyone who has observed suspicious activity is asked to call the League City Police Department at 281-332-2566 or call 911 in an emergency.
