FRIENDSWOOD — Friendswood police have charged a Houston man with trying to walk off with a woman’s toddler at an apartment complex last week.

Police said 42-year-old Felicito Cruz, also known as Felix Alvarez-Cruz, approached a woman outside the Bay Meadows Apartments, 17201 Blackhawk Blvd., at 8:45 p.m. July 17.

According to a statement from the Friendswood Police Department, a man, in broken English, engaged the woman in conversation about her children and the whereabouts of her husband.

“He then took the hand of one of the children and began to walk away with the child,” police reported.

“When the mother realized what was happening, she ran and grabbed her child away from the man and called police.”

Cruz was found the following day. Cruz is at the Harris County Jail, charged with attempted kidnapping. Bail was set at $52,000.
