CRYSTAL BEACH — The Galveston Bay Foundation will host its second annual Ladies Casting for Conservation Fishing Tournament Saturday at Stingaree Restaurant and Marina in Crystal Beach.
With more than 60 women registered to participate and currently more than 100 team sponsors, GBF aims to promote awareness about the importance of conserving and protecting Galveston Bay and the critical habitat the bay provides for fish and other wildlife.
“Our participants and sponsors last year contributed over $30,000 to benefit our habitat conservation efforts, and we’re thrilled to have so many of them back enthusiastically raising money for the bay again,” said Bob Stokes, president of GBF.
“This tournament not only provides us with an opportunity to connect with lady anglers who enjoy fishing Galveston Bay, but also to promote a greater understanding of the importance of protecting and improving this valuable resource.”
The pre-tournament activities kick off Friday night with a social and captains’ meeting at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at Barefoot Bill’s American Grill in Crystal Beach.
The tournament begins at 6 a.m. Saturday, followed by weigh-in, a buffet meal and awards ceremony starting at 1 p.m. at Stingaree Restaurant and Marina. Additional guests can purchase tickets for Friday or Saturday evening at $15 each.
The tournament is made possible through the generous support of event sponsors, including Samson Energy, Easy Lift, Swede’s Real Estate, Kinsel Ford, Stingaree Restaurant and Marina, Barefoot Bill’s American Grill, Texas Marine, Del Papa Distributing Company, Fishing Tackle Unlimited, The Big Store, Eco-Smart Power, and Laguna Custom Rods.
Team registrations are being accepted through Friday. For information, visit galvbay.org/events_fishingtournament.html or call 281-332-3381 to register.
