TEXAS CITY — A funnel cloud appeared briefly in the sky near the Marathon refinery in the southeast part of the city before moving offshore Monday afternoon, officials said.

The funnel cloud over Texas City became visible shortly before 12:45 p.m., spurring the National Weather Service to issue a countywide tornado warning until about 1:15 p.m., Texas City Emergency Management Coordinator Derek Duckett said.

The cloud did not touch down but appeared to extend about halfway to the ground before lifting up and dissipating, Duckett said.

No damage was reported.

“It probably just scared some people,” Duckett said.
