SANTA FE — A woman accused of drunkenly shoving her boyfriend’s daughter at a Santa Fe apartment complex last year has been charged with murder in connection with the death of the 4-year-old girl.

Laura Lea Kolb, 38, has been jailed since March 2013, charged with injury to a child in connection with the death of Taylor Gene Moore. A grand jury indicted her late last month on a charge of murder.

Galveston County Assistant District Attorney Adam Poole, who is prosecuting the case, said it was a “strategic decision” to upgrade the charges against Kolb.

Prosecutors allege that Kolb was intoxicated and angry with her boyfriend, Kevin Moore, when she shoved his 4-year-old daughter into a hard surface, Poole said.

Police said Kolb and Moore had been drinking and got into an argument before Moore went to a neighbor’s apartment in the Santa Fe Courtyards, a residential complex in the 1100 block of 16th Street.

Police said Kolb and Moore were dating, and accuse Kolb of shoving Moore’s daughter in a fit of anger.

First responders found the girl unconscious in Moore’s arms early on March 23, 2013, police said at the time. She was rushed to Mainland Medical Center and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Kolb was arrested that morning and charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child.

Phone messages left at the office of the attorney representing Kolb were not returned Tuesday.

Kolb, who remained at the Galveston County Jail on a $250,000 bond, is expected to go on trial in October.

Kevin, i'm so sorry that this has came to be what it has. I pray for justice for sweet Taylor... Sorry to hear they have pushed the court date even further away, as I know that your family & yourself are needing closure. Justice will soon be served & this demonic beast will meet her fate!!
