LEAGUE CITY — Police on Wednesday arrested a League City woman accused of fleeing the scene of an apparent hit-and-run accident that killed a 45-year-old cyclist last week.
Dena McKenzie, 49, was charged with operating a vehicle in an accident involving injury or death, and her bond was set at $25,000, said officer Reagan Pena, a spokeswoman for the League City Police Department.
League City resident Kevin Ronald Munson was riding his bike in the 1900 block of East Marine Bay Drive at about 2:30 a.m. March 13 when he was hit by a car. Munson was taken by ambulance to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, where he died.
McKenzie was arrested after police released video recorded by a security camera at the entrance of the Waterford Harbor subdivision, a gated community near the scene of the accident.
The video shows a woman driving into the subdivision’s entrance before getting out of gray sedan and struggling to remove the lining from inside the driver’s side wheel well.
It shows a security guard helping the woman remove the car part. The woman then puts it in the sedan’s back seat and drives away.
The woman in the video was identified Friday after the footage was viewed by more than 100,000 people through online social media and through local news outlets, Pena said.
Police obtained a warrant for McKenzie’s arrest after conducting additional interviews, Pena said.
