SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — The Daily News added two more journalist awards to its trophy case Sunday during the final day of the annual meeting of Texas newspaper editors.

The newspaper’s coverage of disgraced former County Court No. 3 judge Christopher Dupuy was awarded second place in its division in the Community Service category.

The honor was awarded specifically to former Daily News courts reporter Chris Paschenko.

The awards were part of the Texas Associated Press Managing Editor’s annual conference that included the state’s top journalism awards.

Also Sunday, reporter Laura Elder and Editor Heber Taylor were given an honorable mention in the Freedom of Information category.

In all, The Daily News’ staff took home 12 journalism honors from the weekend.

Five of those awards came in the photography categories.
