LA MARQUE — District B Councilman Chris Lane was officially sworn in to the La Marque City Council on Monday night.
“I’m very excited,” said Lane, while congratulating James Osteen on running a good race. “Democracy is a full-contact sport, and the only way we’re going to move forward as a city is if we start actively, as citizens, taking a role.”
Lane won his position by the slimmest of margins following a June 21 runoff election with Osteen, an incumbent councilman.
Lane officially won the election after receiving a single additional vote following a review of provisional ballots by county election officials Saturday.
He won the race 158-157.
Lane was sworn in by the Rev. B.J. Hunter.
Lane, who is black, was sworn in the same night that the La Marque council heard the results of an investigation which determined that Councilwoman Carolyn Trube had established “a pattern of inappropriate and racially insensitive statements.”
