HITCHCOCK – This year’s steer show has more entries than past years, and competition is fierce.
“The steers get better in quality every year,” steer chairman Claudia Tibaldo said.
The show begins at 7 p.m. today, but spectators should arrive early at around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. to find a seat.
The steer show is one of the most popular events at the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo. Not only does it attract friends and family members but also curious spectators who just want to see who comes out on top.
“There are several that show up because the Grand Champion steer is a big deal because it will bring the most money at the auction,” Tibaldo said. “They may not have children showing but they want to come see who wins.”
Tibaldo’s family has been showing animals for years, and she said the competition this year is tough.
“All the exhibitors are coming to win,” she said. “They’re going to be excellent.”
The event is free with ticket purchase.
