GALVESTON — A memorial service for developer, oilman and philanthropist George P. Mitchell is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2216 Ball Ave.

Following the service, members of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band and the Ross Volunteer Company from Texas A&M University will lead a procession to Saengerfest Park, 23rd Street and The Strand. 

A celebration of Mitchell’s life in Galveston will be at 7 p.m. at Saengerfest Park. 

The tribute is open to the public and will include guest speakers, as well as performances by the Texas A&M Singing Cadets and The Salvation Army Harbor Light Choir.

Speakers include Lyda Ann Thomas, Doug Matthews, Dr. Bill Merrell, Peter Brink, Paco Vargas, Dancie Ware, Dr. Marina Walne, Linda Bomke, Bill Ross and Grant Mitchell.

Free parking will be available at these sites:

• Surface lots in the Pier 21 area. Entry to the lots is from 21st and 22nd streets off Harborside Drive.

• 2110 Market Street garage, 21st and Market streets. Entry is on Market Street.

• Surface lots at 21st and Market streets. Entry is on Market Street.
