CRYSTAL BEACH — A Bolivar Peninsula woman was hospitalized during the weekend after she was pinned in her car door at an ATM.
The accident happened about 5:30 p.m. Saturday at a drive-up ATM in Crystal Beach.
A customer at the nearby grocery store flagged down a Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputy after he found the woman pinned between the machine and car.
The deputy reported that the woman was stuck between the driver’s side door of the car and the inside pillar. Her vehicle had slammed into the ATM and pinned the door against the woman.
According to a Sheriff’s office statement, it appeared that as the woman was using the ATM she opened her car door and leaned out to reach the ATM. That’s when the car must have lurched forward.
Sheriff Henry Trochesset said he hoped video from the ATM would reveal how the woman became pinned. Investigators said they expect to get the video today.
The 45-year-old Crystal Beach resident was unconscious when the deputy approached the car.
Crystal Beach Fire and EMS worked to free the woman. She was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch’s John Sealy Hospital.
Her condition was unknown, but the sheriff’s office didn’t report that her injuries were life threatening.
