A total of 1,498 United States and Texas flags flutter in the wind Monday at Nessler Park in Texas City as part of the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol’s sixth annual Healing Field. Each of the United States flag represents a life that was lost in an alcohol-related crash on a Texas roadway in 2012. The Texas flags mark the death of a person younger than under 21 killed in an alcohol-related crash in Texas in 2012.

The display, which takes up six acres of the park, will be open through Thursday. The free event is sponsored by the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol in partnership with United Way Galveston County Mainland, City of Texas City, the Texas City school district and the city’s police department.
