GALVESTON — Police are ramping up efforts to enforce traffic laws for golf cart drivers on the island.

Galveston residents and neighborhood associations have expressed concern about unlicensed drivers, the prohibited use of golf carts on beaches and other traffic issues, including drunken driving on golf carts, Sgt. Douglas Balli said.

Police are asking residents and visitors to the island to call the department to report any violations of the city’s golf cart ordinance, or anyone unsafely operating a golf cart, Balli said.

Residents can report golf cart violations to 409-765-3702.
