BACLIFF — A man has died after falling down steps at his home, authorities said Thursday.

Although Paul Rodriguez, 44, fell before a 1:39 a.m. Sunday disturbance, deputies investigating the incident didn’t initially suspect foul play was involved, said Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo, a spokesman with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

Rodriguez died Wednesday afternoon, likely from a head injury, said John Florence, a spokesman for the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Rodriguez was found at his home in the 4400 block of Fifth Street in Bacliff, Tuttoilmondo said.

Rodriguez was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch where he died, Florence said.

An autopsy was scheduled possibly for Thursday afternoon, but the cause of Rodriguez’s death would likely remain pending results from a toxicology test, Florence said.
