LEAGUE CITY — If you get a call from someone asking for donations to the League City Volunteer Fire Department, hang up.

City officials this week warned residents that someone has been calling and in some cases mailing letters requesting funds to help the fire department.

“Aside from when (League City Volunteer Fire Department) partners with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for the ‘Fill the Boot’ donation campaign, the fire department does not ask for donations of any kind,” the city said in a social media posting.

The city was alerted when people starting calling to confirm the donation requests.

Those who do want to support the city’s volunteer fire department can do so, but they have to be the ones to initiate the call.

Those wanting to donate should call the fire department administration office at 281-554-1465.
