The Galveston Children’s Museum, on the first floor of the Moody Mansion, features exhibits grouped in zones. The July 10 soft launch will see the museum opening for its fully operational hours. It will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m. Sundays and will be closed on Mondays. The soft launch will help the museum to iron out any kinks in its operations.

The museum, a resource to extend the arts and STEM (science, technology, engineering math) education of Galveston children, has received a $300,000 grant from the Moody Foundation.

Galveston Children’s Museum also has received invaluable support from private donors, the Mary Moody Northen Endowment Fund, The UTMB President’s Cabinet Award, Texas A&M University at Galveston, Island ETC East End Theatre and the Galveston Restaurant Group.

Interactive exhibits include

• KidsCare Clinic — Features a high-tech, interactive screen to help children learn how their bodies work;

• Make It! Studio — Has real tools and real projects designed to inspire future engineers;

• Performance Playbooth — includes a puppet theater and an interactive word wall; and

• Our Town — promotes Galveston’s unique industries with a fishing boat, farmer’s market and Mario’s Seawall Pizzeria.
