TEXAS CITY — A 58-year-old Texas City woman was killed Wednesday evening after the motorcycle she was riding collided with an SUV near FM 1765 and 31st Street.
She was taken by air ambulance to the Memorial Hermann Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 6:30 p.m. The woman, whose name has been withheld until her family can be notified, died of blunt trauma, said John Florence, a spokesman for the Galveston County Medical Examiner.
The woman was a passenger on a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle being driven by a 63-year-old man, who was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston for treatment after the accident, Texas City police said.
The motorcycle struck the back of a Ford Expedition headed east on FM 1765 as the SUV came to a stop and attempted to turn onto 31st Street, police said.
The man and woman were thrown off the motorcycle in the collision. Both were wearing helmets, police said.
Neither the driver nor passenger in the Ford Expedition were injured, police said.
Officials are continuing to investigate the accident, although it appears a failure to control speed and driver inattention contributed to the fatal wreck, according to a news release from the Texas City Police Department.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the SUV.
