A man was jailed Saturday night after being accused of firing a handgun in a Texas City neighborhood.
The incident happened just after midnight, when police were called to the 6700 block of Carver Avenue about a man “running around with a handgun,” according to the complaint.
A 911 caller told police six shots had been fired, according to the complaint.
Officers found the man inside his house and convinced him to come out unarmed, according to the complaint.
Another person at the house said the man had come in from outside carrying a handgun and “talking about someone trying to break into the residence,” according to the complaint.
The man walked outside and started shooting toward the Carver Park area, the complaint said. Police found no bullet holes in nearby houses. No one was injured, according to the complaint.
A witness told police the man might have smoked a cigarette dipped in embalming fluid, according to the complaint.
Police found a handgun lying on the grass near the house, according to the complaint. They also found an ashtray containing a “damp” cigarette, according to the complaint.
Christopher Wayne Hilton, 37, was charged with deadly conduct, discharging a firearm. His bond was set at $25,000. He was still in custody Monday at the Galveston County jail, according to court records.
