A man was struck and killed by a car Wednesday in Hitchcock.

The death occurred just after 5 a.m. in the 7000 block of FM 2004, said Hitchcock police spokesman Capt. John Jenkins.

The man walked or ran out of the woods just before he was hit, Jenkins said. The driver did not realize what he had hit at first, Jenkins said.

When police responded they found the man’s body in a ditch near the road.

Police have not released the man’s identity. He is a white male in his mid-20s, Jenkins said.

No charges have been filed. The incident is still under investigation
